Museum of Ice Cream – Miami

What a cool place!

The Museum of Ice Cream – Miami is a sweet treat!

We really had a sweet time!

No puns were intended in the previous remarks – they are as corny as hell – but it’s all true!

The Museum of Ice Cream – Miami is a temporary pop-up “museum” but could be better described as in interactive experience.  First launched in New York and then Los Angeles and Miami by Maryellis Bunn, it was created to build experiences and connect the millenial audience.  You know millenials – the selfie-loving, social media savvy generation.  But it’s not just for millenials – Museum of Ice Cream – Miami is fun for everyone!

Cookie Bro is in the House

With daydreams of sweet treats, sprinkles and ice cream cones we set off for a day in Miami at the Museum of Ice Cream.  I swear, this experience was like walking through a living and breathing game of Candy Land.  It was pink and bubbly and frivolous and fun!  I was expecting to see Queen Frostine at any minute.  Everyone had ice cream names – “Chocolate Chunk” greeted us at the entrance to the museum.  Jackson was dubbed “Cookie Bro”, Joe chose “King Vanilla” for his name.  (I’m really not sure how to read into that choice, so let’s move on.)  And I was Raspberry Blondie because of course, raspberry is my favorite flavor ice cream and I have blond hair.  Super creative, huh?

Let’s Go For a Dip

Hanging out by the diving board at MOIC - Miami

Our visit was lighthearted and fun and began with a dip in the Sprinkle Pool.  Millions of sprinkles fill a shallow pool that you can actually swim in!  Jackson waded around and I hopped off the diving board.  Joe wasn’t up for the frivolity and acted as photographer.   He tries.  Air showers are available to blow off stray sprinkles and the staff is constantly sweeping them back into the pool.  But seriously, you will inadvertently bring home some rainbow colored souvenirs.  I found sprinkles for a week after – in the car, in my jeans pockets, in the laundry, they were hiding everywhere!  By the way, the sprinkles are not real – they are just plastic.  Plus, I hear that the sprinkles are themselves bathed on a regular basis.  That’s good to know.

Sweet Treats

Melted ice cream

Jackson and I were exhausted after swimming laps in the Sprinkle Pool and were offered refreshment at our next stop.  It was a shake shop complete with a sparkling gold floor and loud music blaring from a juke box.  Ice cream sweet treats are included in the ticket price and we had mini chocolate shakes that came out on a conveyor belt.   Besides those little shakes, throughout the 4 floors at MOIC we were treated to chocolate covered bananas on a stick, the ice cream of the future – melted ice cream (nah), mochi – rice flour confections with an ice cream filling (choose mango!), and ice cream cones.

Pops of Color

Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean

Every turn at MOIC was bright and colorful.  From the life size cones, to the bright pink palm trees, to the electric blue backdrop of the glittering Atlantic Ocean just beyond the museum, we were reminded of dreams and wishes and those vibrant imaginations we once had in childhood – when an ice cream cone could make everything better.  And it it still can, because ice cream solves everything.  Well at least it can for a few hours in bright and sunny Miami.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind When Visiting the Museum of Ice Cream —

After extending it’s run a few times, it looks like MOIC- Miami will remain open till April 29th.  You cannot walk up to buy a ticket, you must purchase your tickets ahead of time online through their website – Museum of Ice Cream – Miami

Parking can be awful in Miami Beach, especially along Collins Avenue, and even in the public parking lots.  Save yourself a headache and use the valet parking at the Faena Forum.  It costs $25 for MOIC guests.

If you have some more time you can just walk east one block and you will be on the beach or head 6 miles west to check out Wynwood Walls.

MOIC-Miami is a maze of 4 floors and lots of different “exhibit” rooms – there are stairs and elevators to access it all.

This a fun place for anyone – teens, families, babies, anyone who enjoys ice cream!

Museum of Ice Cream is also open in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
